Insidious: Out of the Further OTT release update: When and where will Amelia Eve’s horror movie stream after theatrical run

The Insidious franchise has returned with another trip into the terrifying world of The Further, and this time the story puts a new character at the centre of the nightmare. Insidious: Out of the Further is the sixth film in the popular horror series and arrived in theatres on August 21, 2026. With its theatrical run now underway, attention has already shifted to its OTT release, especially for viewers who prefer watching horror movies at home.

Directed and written by Jacob Chase, Insidious: Out of the Further follows Gemma, played by Amelia Eve, a young mother who is raising her daughter in the house where she grew up. Her life takes a disturbing turn when she discovers that she has the ability to enter The Further, the purgatorial dimension filled with lost souls and demonic entities.

Sony's official description says: “Amelia Eve stars as Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the house she grew up in who discovers she can travel into The Further, the purgatorial realm of lost souls at the heart of the Insidious universe.”


But Gemma's ability comes with a much bigger danger. The official description adds: “When something evil comes after her, Gemma discovers an ability that changes everything: she doesn’t just enter The Further, she can bring what lives there back to the real world. Once the demons realize her power, our world becomes their playground.”

The cast also includes Brandon Perea, Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Lin Shaye, who returns as Elise Rainier. The movie follows 2023's Insidious: The Red Door and continues the franchise's supernatural horror story while introducing a new central character.

When will Insidious: Out of the Further release online

For viewers waiting for the OTT release, Insidious: Out of the Further is expected to stream on Netflix in the US later this year. Sony Pictures has a Pay-1 licensing agreement with Netflix, under which the streaming platform gets the US streaming rights to Sony's theatrical releases after their theatrical and home entertainment windows.

According to calculations by What's on Netflix, Sony films have generally taken around 120 days to move from their theatrical release to Netflix in the US. That makes December 19, 2026, the projected Netflix release date for Insidious: Out of the Further, based on its August 21 theatrical debut.

There can still be some changes to the timing depending on the movie's theatrical and digital performance. The 120-day gap is also mainly relevant to the US market, so viewers in other countries may get the film on a different date or through another streaming service.

Insidious: Out of the Further box office performance

The movie has also been making its presence felt at the box office. According to Box Office Mojo figures cited in the available reports, Insidious: Out of the Further had collected $57.2 million in North America after 21 days, with another $83.9 million coming from international markets. Its worldwide total stood at $141.1 million.

The film has also moved past The Curse of La Llorona, which earned about $54.7 million during its North American theatrical run in 2019. That makes Insidious: Out of the Further a bigger domestic grosser than the lowest-grossing entry in the Conjuring Universe.
