Indira Gandhi's centenary year - and Madhur Bhandarkar's 'Indu Sarkar' is set for release

This is the year of the biopic, political and else. From M S Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar to Manmohan Singh and a semi-fictional feature film 'Modi Ka Gaon', based on the PM's rural development scheme, this year has a lot of political drama to offer on the big screen.

The lastest film to join the bandwagon is National Award-winning director Madhur Bhandarkar's ' Indu Sarkar' based on the life of former prime minister Indira Gandhi. The film, set in the 1970s, depicts the Emergency and the political climate around then. 2017 also marks the former PM's birth centenary year.

On Wednesday actor Neil Nitin Mukesh and director Bhandarkar released a new poster of the film. Going by the initial response, it seems that Twitterati was quite impressed with Mukesh's transformation into Gandhi.

Neil posted the look on his Twitter handle and wrote alongside, "28th July 2017. In my most daring character potryed on screen ever. #indusarkar @imbhandarkar. @IamKirtiKulhari @AnupamPkher"

The film, slated for a end-July release, also stars Kirti Kulhari, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.

Neil had previously also shared his look from the film on Instagram.

What an honour being a part of this legendary song 'Chadta sooraj dheere dheere' originally sung by Ustaad Aziz Naza and now re-sung by his son Mujtaba Aziz Naza recreated by Anu Malik," Neil captioned the image.

But will the film do justice to Gandhi's epic journey? We'll have to wait and watch!
