The richest one per cent of the world's population, who own more than the rest of us combined, also includes four Indians.

The wealth of the world's 62 richest individuals is half of the rest of the world. Among those affluent 62 are four Indian names: Industrialist Mukesh Ambani, IT titan Azim Premji, pharma boss Dilip Shanghvi and business magnates, Hinduja Brothers.

Oxfam, which published the report, also noted that "in India, 46 percent of billionaires have made their fortunes from sectors that depend upon market power, influence or preferential access to licensing". The reports also draws comparisons between CEO pay across different countries and the average workforce. For instance, in India, "The CEO of a top information technology firm makes 416 times the salary of a typical employee."
