India’s most prestigious auto awards fete the best in industry

The awards highlighted and recognised brilliance in the auto sector.

One of India’s most prestigious automobile awards — Indian Car of the Year and Indian Motorcycle of the Year — honoured the best in the industry.

The winners of the 14th Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) and the 12th Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY) were announced at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai.

The awards highlighted and recognised brilliance in the auto sector amidst a packed house of industry leaders, eminent representatives of industrial bodies and auto enthusiasts.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift and Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, which are counted among the most popular introductions of 2019, were announced the Indian Car of the Year 2019 and Indian Bike of the Year 2019, respectively. Making its debut at the ICOTY platform was the Premium Car of the Year 2019 award, which was given to Volvo XC40.

Dr Raghupati Singhania, chairman and managing director, JK Tyre & Industries Limited, along with Yogendra Pratap, chairman, ICOTY 2019, and Shubhabrata Marmar, chairman, IMOTY 2019, presented the awards to the winning teams. Commenting on the occasion, Dr Singhania, said, “The ICOTY and IMOTY awards are like the Oscars of the Indian auto industry, rewarding the most exciting vehicles that have been introduced on Indian roads this year. Every year, the best ones are chosen amongst the leaders. The awards have undergone a rich journey over the years and today, they represent the highest level of credibility, judgment and recognition.

Every year, a panel of experts from India’s top automobile publications judges the ICOTY and IMOTY awards. Assessments for both the categories are based on a series of stringent parameters, such as price, fuel efficiency, styling, comfort, safety, performance, practicality, technical innovation, build quality, value for money and suitability for Indian riding conditions.
