India's #MeToo moment: Chetan Bhagat apologises after screenshots of WhatsApp messages go viral

The author took to Facebook to express his apology to the woman who accused him of harassment.

Recently, a tweet went viral which accused the famous Indian author Chetan Bhagat of sexual harassment. The tweet comprised of screenshots of the author's conversation with a journalist he 'knew only in professional capacity'.



In the conversation, Bhagat was trying to 'woo' the journalist.

The 44-year-old author immediately shared a long response to the allegations made against him in a Facebook post.

He admitted to having had the conversation, and apologised to the woman as well as his wife of 20 years, Anusha.

"I should have had better judgement, but I guess I erred a bit there. Maybe I misread the friendliness," his apology read.

And his message to the audience was: Equip yourself to one day not be dependent on anyone - this applies to everyone, but especially to girls, and women.
