LinkedIn started its India operations in November 2009 with 3.4 mn members.
PUNE: Professional networking platform LinkedIn said that it has crossed 50 million members in India. The platform has over 562 mn members globally. India is the fastest growing, and largest market for LinkedIn outside of the US, and it has doubled its member base here over the last four years, said the company. It started its India operations in November 2009 with 3.4mn members.
Akshay Kothari, country manager-India, LinkedIn said, “India’s current sentiment has elevated from “stable” to “positive”, giving way to a renewed faith in the country’s high growth potential. Our members-first, localised approach has helped us cross the 50 million mark in India. We are at the beginning of an exciting journey, as we democratize opportunity for every member of the Indian workforce. As we go ahead, we will continue to focus on students, career starters, and professionals beyond knowledge workers.”
In India, LinkedIn has focused on a localised approach to democratize opportunity and connect professionals to make them more productive and successful.
LinkedIn has focused on localisation to make the platform more relevant to India. This started with the launch of a lightweight mobile website in September 2016, followed by the launch of ‘LinkedIn Lite’ Android app in 2017. This helped the platform make inroads with professionals in low -connectivity areas. The app was developed by the R&D centre in Bengaluru and has since been launched in 135 other countries and now supports over 20 languages.
While information technology and services, computer software and financial services are among the top industries on the platform so far in 2018, the top companies are Directi, Flipkart, One97 Communications (Paytm) and Amazon.
