Ind vs NZ ICC World Cup semi-final: David Beckham watches high-octane clash with Sachin Tendulkar, Jay Shah; Ranbir Kapoor adds star power on pitch, Sara cheers for Shubman Gill

The exhilarating India vs New Zealand ICC World Cup 2023 semi-final match commenced on Wednesday and it turned out to be a star-studded event with several celebrities attending the high-octane clash at the Wankhede Stadium.

Football icon David Beckham, currently in India as UNICEF's goodwill ambassador, added star power to the ODI World Cup semi-final. The former England and Manchester United star was spotted alongside cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and BCCI secretary Jay Shah, enjoying the electrifying atmosphere.




In a heartwarming gesture, Beckham stood up for India's national anthem, showing his respect for the host country. His genuine enthusiasm was evident as he sang along to the anthem with everyone else.

Adding to the glamour at Wankhede Stadium, Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor graced the occasion. The actor was promoting his upcoming film 'Animal' and was present on the pitch during the pre-match discussion.


Kapoor even recalled the time when he was at the same stadium back in 2011, when India had won the World Cup.


Rohit Sharma, leading the Indian squad, won the toss and elected to bat first in the much-anticipated semi-final against Kane Williamson's New Zealand.

Meanwhile, during the match, Shubhman Gill, the young blood of Indian cricket, scored a cracking 13th ODI fifty and along with Virat Kohli, continued to score at a brisk pace after India lost captain Rohit Sharma for a quickfire 47.

The 24-year-old cricketer's parents, Lakhwinder Singh and Keart Gill, clapped from the stands for their son as he reached the 50 runs mark. His father is an agriculturist and once aspired to become a cricketer himself.


Gill, who was seen hitting the boundary several times while on the pitch, also got ecstatic cheers from his rumoured girlfriend Sara Tendulkar, the daughter of Sachin Tendulkar.

However, Gill's stellar performance came to an abrupt halt as the cricketer got retired hurt at 79 runs.

The hosts, seeking redemption for their 2019 World Cup semi-final loss to the Kiwis, seem determined to emerge victorious in this high-stakes encounter.
