In post-verdict note, Amber Heard calls it a setback for women; Johnny Depp's female fans accuse actress of doing disservice to domestic violence victims

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp issued separate statements after the verdict.
"Truth prevails!" was a common sight on social media today.

On Wednesday night, the jury delivered a split verdict after three days of deliberations in actor Johnny Depp's defamation case against former actress-wife Amber Heard. While he was awarded $15 million, she was given $2 million on one of the three counts she had countersued Depp for $100 million.

After losing the 'wife-beater' case against The Sun newspaper and settling the divorce case for $50 million, the hardcore Depp fans believed this was the much-needed victory for the star.

The social media was flooded with a number of hashtags like #TruthWins, #HeWon and #JusticeForJohnnyDepp on Twitter.

Both the stars issued separate statements after the verdict.

The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star celebrated the split verdict in the case as a victory, while heartbroken Heard said, "I'm even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women."

Terming it as a sob-story-defeat speech, the actor's female fan following were 'delighted' with the verdict. A number of female fans of the 58-year-old, including the ones who have been victims of domestic abuse, took to Twitter to share their point of view. Some went on to call the 'Aquaman' star a liar.

Some anti-domestic violence advocates believed this was a landmark case that proves men can be victims of abuse too. "Amber heard asked Johnny Depp to tell the world that he, a man, was a victim of domestic violence and see who believes him. 6 years later, he did and people believed him."

Some users went on to compare the statements released after the verdict. While they felt Depp's statement was balanced, Heard's note was all about herself.



Depp's legal team, including Camille Vasquez and Ben Chew, also earned a lot of admirers.






Depp's witness also found a mention on social media.


One user demanded a public apology from Warner Bros and Disney for dropping Johnny Depp, and urged Warner Bros need to remove Heard from 'Aquaman' sequel.



This was also a chance for hilarious memes.



Back home, a user urged Indian men to not be inspired by the defamation case as the country's justice system won't offer similar relief.


A number of Bollywood celebrities such as Ali Fazal, Disha Patani, Sophie Chaudhary, Shruti Haasan and Neil Nitin Mukesh also took to Instagram Stories to show their support.

After several years of dating, Depp and Heard married in a very private ceremony in their home in Los Angeles in 2015.

On May 23, 2016, Heard filed for divorce from Depp and obtained a temporary restraining order against the Oscar-nominated actor. She alleged that Depp had physically abused her during their relationship, and said it was usually while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
