Before you do any actual rearrangement, save on time and energy, by first quickly plotting your rearrangement plan on paper (a quick sketch would do!). As you plan, pick one piece of furniture that’ll serve as the room’s focal point and arrange your other items around it.

Once you’ve finalised your arrangement, start by placing the largest piece of furniture or the room’s focal point first, followed by the smaller items in the remaining space. Accent pieces and decorations should go last, oriented towards your focal point.

For instance, if your sofa is your focal point, let it shine with some bright cushions or throws and some contemporary industrial lights above. Use the wall behind the sofa for a mural or a collection of framed photos. Remember to make that focal point the center of attraction (literally!)

Move them to the bedroom along with a table (snack counter!) for those movie nights and video game battles.

WFH doesn’t have to be ‘indoors’! Shift that versatile console table to your balcony along with a plush wing chair and enjoy working in a refreshing, new environment. Own a low-rise coffee table? Relieve it from the living room on weekends by placing it on the balcony or verandah along with a rug and some cushions for a cozy baithak style catch-up with the fam.

All this rearranging leaving you worried about damage? Here’s how to do it! In case of tall items like bookshelves, it is ideal to move it horizontally instead of vertically, to avoid bumping into doorways and other objects. Drape the edges of the furniture with thick towels to avoid abrasions, when changing rooms.

Show your floor some concern too, by placing Frisbees or plastic plates underneath the legs of furniture to avoid scuffing the flooring. For chairs, remember to lift from the seat rail only and not the back of it, else it could weaken and result in breakage.

Pro tip: Large, heavy pieces? Shift it onto a carpet or doormat and then just drag the carpet to your destination of choice!
