Gone, but not forgotten.
2022 was a year of profound loss.

During the awards ceremony, the Academy took time to mention the accomplished film-makers and artistes the world lost in its 'In Memoriam' segment.

Grammy-winning musician and singer Lenny Kravitz performed live during the annual segment, a rendition of 'Calling All Angels'. 'Grease' actor John Travolta even choked up while introducing the 'In Memoriam' segment, which mentioned his co-star Olivia Newton-John who died on September 26, 2022.

Hollywood personalities like Newton-John, Ray Liotta, Raquel Welch, composer Burt Bacharach, directors Wolfgang Petersen, Bob Rafelson and Jean-Luc Godard, among others, were honoured on stage in the 'In Memoriam' video segment.

Since it couldn't add all names to the video tribute, the Academy mentioned names of 270 film-makers and artistes from around the world in its 'In Memoriam' gallery, an extension to the video. Many prominent Indian names were missing from the list.

Last year, India lost many precious gems like singer Krishnakumar Kunnath (KK), comedian Raju Srivastava, classical dancer Pandit Birju Maharaj, actor Vikram Gokhale, and musician Shivkumar Sharma among others.

However, Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy, known by his stage name Krishna, was the only Indian to find a mention in the 'In Memoriam' gallery'.

Born on May 31, 1942, Burripalem-based Krishna made his acting debut in the 1965 Telugu film 'Thene Manasulu'. He acted in about 350 films in his career spanning over five decades. The late actor will be cremated with full state honours at Mahaprasthanam in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

Krishna is Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu's father, and 2022 had been a year of personal loss for the Ghattamaneni family. Two months before Krishna's demise, his wife and Mahesh's mother Indira Devi passed away on September 28, 2022, after a brief illness. Earlier in January of the same year, Mahesh's actor-producer-brother Ramesh Babu passed away due to kidney-related complications in January at the age of 56 due to kidney-related problems.
