In Canada, no online ticket booking for Vijay's Jana Nayagan. How tickets will be sold

Vijay's much-awaited film Jana Nayagan is just days away from release, but fans in Canada will have to follow a different process to book their tickets. Unlike several other overseas markets where online advance bookings have already opened, tickets for the film at York Cinemas in Canada will not be available online.

Instead, the exhibitor has announced that all ticket sales will happen only through its theatre box office. The move comes after the film's earlier booking plans were disrupted following a long delay in its release schedule.

No online bookings at York Cinemas

York Cinemas, which is handling the film's release at its locations in Canada, said tickets will be sold in phases and only through in-person purchases at the box office.


The first 24 hours of ticket sales have been reserved for VIP members who had earlier purchased Jana Nayagan tickets before the film's postponement and are still waiting for their refunds or booking adjustments. These customers will get the first opportunity to secure seats.

The exhibitor also said that ticket swaps will only be processed at the theatre box office and not online.

During the next two days, bookings will continue to remain exclusive for other VIP members. Only after this priority booking period ends will tickets be made available to the general public. Customers buying tickets under the VIP category will also have to present valid membership or proof of eligibility while making their purchase.

The booking policy applies only to York Cinemas in Canada and is not part of the film's global ticketing strategy.

Why has this system been introduced?

The phased booking process follows the cancellation of the film's earlier advance bookings after Jana Nayagan's release was pushed back by several months because of issues related to the censor process.

York Cinemas has now introduced the priority system to ensure that customers affected by those cancelled bookings receive the first chance to purchase tickets before general sales begin.

Strong overseas response

While Canadian fans wait for their booking window, the response in other international markets has been strong.

According to UK distributor Ahimsa Entertainment, thousands of tickets were sold within the first hour after advance bookings opened, showing the high demand for Vijay's final film overseas. Advance bookings have also started in markets such as the UK and Australia.

Film gets revised runtime before release

Jana Nayagan has also undergone a fresh certification ahead of release. The film was re-certified on July 14, with its runtime increased by 41 seconds. It will now run for 3 hours, 3 minutes and 52 seconds.

The UK version of the film is expected to release without any cuts. Reports have also suggested that the film may open with a title slate reading, "The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C. Joseph Vijay," reflecting Vijay's transition from cinema to politics.

Directed by H. Vinoth and starring Vijay and Pooja Hegde, Jana Nayagan is scheduled to release in India on July 23, while several international markets, including parts of the overseas circuit, will begin screenings on July 24. As Vijay's final film before fully focusing on politics, expectations around the release remain exceptionally high.
