In 2025, a Californian mother-daughter found hundreds of speakers hidden across Mount Shasta, broadcasting eerie sounds. The truth was a bizarre message about veganism and world peace

For a while, it looked like something out of a horror movie. Hundreds of speakers were found hidden across Mount Shasta in California, sending strange sounds through the trees and leaving a mother and daughter wondering if they had stumbled onto something far more unusual than an abandoned piece of equipment. The discovery was made by California resident Karrie Ann Snure and her daughter Jordan while they were horseback riding in the area on June 23, 2025.

What they heard first was an eerie screeching sound coming from the woods. They went off the trail to find its source and instead came across solar-powered Bluetooth speakers sticking out of the ground.

“This is straight apocalyptic,” Snure said in a video shared on Facebook. “Someone is summoning something here.”

Hundreds of speakers hidden across the mountain

The strange discovery did not end with one group of speakers. As Snure and Jordan went farther up the mountain, they found more devices scattered among the trees. Snure estimated that there could be between 100 and 200 speakers in the area.

Most of them appeared to be playing what sounded like white noise. But some of the speakers that were positioned separately seemed to carry a human voice. Snure said one appeared to be playing a sermon-like recording that mentioned salvation.

“I think it sounds like white noise because they’re all playing the same thing, but when combined together and not properly synced it just sounds like static,” the content creator theorized in a follow-up clip, as per New York Post. “The ones that were placed by themselves, you could make out a human voice coming out of them, repeating a mantra.”

The discovery quickly led to theories online. Some people suggested Bigfoot, a cult or even a wolf deterrent. Others joked that the famous Mount Shasta witches were summoning demons, while some wondered if the speakers were being used by illegal marijuana growers.

Snure herself initially connected the installation to the area's strange reputation. Mount Shasta has long been associated with UFO stories, supernatural claims and the New Age legend of Lemuria. According to that belief, an advanced civilisation called the Lemurians lives beneath the mountain in a hidden city known as Telos.

The speakers were on private land

The mystery became slightly less supernatural when Snure checked OnX maps and discovered that the installation was on private property next to California Government Lands.

That still left one major question: who had put hundreds of speakers there, and why?

Snure eventually tracked down the property owner, and the answer turned out to be considerably stranger than an alien or supernatural explanation.

According to Snure, the landowner said the speakers were there “because the world don’t have enough vegan to balance.”

He also told her that “if the slaughtering of our animal co-inhabitant friends don’t stop, this heavy karma will come back to us.”

A message about veganism and world peace

The owner described the installation as a personal spiritual project. Snure later said she understood the speakers as an attempt to send spoken words and positive messages into the universe rather than summon anything.

“It appears the speakers are a way to project spoken words and positive messages into the universe. At the heart of his message is a sincere prayer for world peace and a hope that people will choose a more compassionate way to treat one another,” Snure shared in a video on Instagram.

She said the owner believes “compassion can heal many of the challenges that we face.”

The mystery has not ended completely, though. The man, whom Snure referred to as the “Speaker Dude” while protecting his identity, said he planned to remove speakers depending on how many people committed to trying veganism.

“For every 10 people pledged to convert to vegan, one speaker will be removed; or 30 people promise to try vegan food and post video evidence; or every 100 people who are already vegan and post under this video,” one of his messages to Snure read.

What began with frightening sounds in the Mount Shasta forest, then, turned out not to be an attempt to contact aliens or summon something from another world. It was a very unusual campaign for veganism, compassion and world peace, delivered through hundreds of solar-powered speakers scattered across a mountainside.
