Bob Dylan is one of the most celebrated singers in the world who has given us some of the most hard-hitting songs. Not many are aware that while the 85-year-old was born in Duluth, Minnesota, he spent much of his childhood in the small mining town of Hibbing from 1948 to 1959. According to reports, the 1,600 sq ft home was built in 1939 and features 3 bedrooms. In 2019, a retired pharmacist, Bill Pagel, who is also a huge Dylan fan, purchased the property and put his all into restoring the singer’s childhood home.

Bob Dylan’s childhood home in Minnesota

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Pagel bought the home from Gregg and Donna French, who have lived there since 1990. The property was valued at $84,000 by Zillow.

Atlas Obscura states that the Minnesota residence is where Bob Dylan learned to play the piano and guitar. He even kickstarted his musical career here performing in a high school rock band. Although the interior is not publicly accessible, Pagel does allow private tours. He has even acquired some of Dylan’s prized possessions.

Things inside Bob Dylan’s Minnesota home

Pagel has created a small museum dedicated to Bob Dylan in the record room, which houses the legendary musician’s photographs, concert posters and song lyrics, handwritten by Dylan himself. There are also drawings, notes and other vintage papers that haven’t found their way online.

Some of the original objects Pagel has retained inside the house include a chair, a piano stand and an end table in the living area, as per the Duluth News Tribune. There is also a phone shelf between the kitchen and dining room. Dylan’s original nightstand stands tall upstairs in the bedroom, adjacent to the bed.

Apart from that, Pagel has also carefully retained Bob Dylan’s 9-inch teal-and-white television set that the Zimmerman boys watched in their room as they enjoyed their time together. Some of the walls feature Dylan’s family pictures too.

This isn’t the first Bob Dylan house that Pagel purchased. In 2001, he bought Dylan’s duplex in Duluth, Minnesota, for $82,000. He hopes to transform both homes into Dylan museums.
