Filmmaker Sriram Raghavan kicked off 2026 by stepping into the war genre with Ikkis, a biographical drama inspired by the life of Param Vir Chakra awardee Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal. The film, which marks a shift from the director's usual thrillers, premiered in theatres on January 1 and received a steady response at the box office. While it may not have taken a bumper start, Ikkis has shown signs of gradual growth over its first weekend, managing to hold its ground amid tough competition.

Ikkis box office collection day-wise

According to early estimates by Sacnilk, Ikkis witnessed a rise in collections on its third day. The film reportedly earned around Rs 4.65 crore (India net) on Day 3, showing an improvement over its performance on the first Friday. The war drama had opened on New Year’s Day with an impressive Rs 7 crore, benefiting from the holiday.

However, collections dipped on Friday, with the film earning approximately Rs 3.5 crore. With Saturday’s numbers added, the total India net collection of Ikkis now stands at an estimated Rs 15.15 crore, helping it enter the Rs 15 crore club within three days.

In terms of gross figures, the film has collected roughly Rs 18 crore at the Indian box office so far. Overseas markets have contributed an estimated Rs 1.75 crore, taking the film’s worldwide gross to around Rs 19.75 crore, as per Sacnilk data. While these numbers may not be extraordinary, they indicate a steady pace for a content-driven war drama facing multiple big-ticket releases.

Occupancy figures further show the film’s gradual pickup. On Saturday, Ikkis reportedly recorded an overall 20.69% Hindi occupancy. Morning shows began on a lower note at 7.95%, but footfalls improved as the day progressed. Afternoon shows saw around 20.24% occupancy, while evening shows rose to 26.34%. The highest turnout was reported during night shows, which recorded an estimated 28.21% occupancy, suggesting positive word of mouth among viewers.

More about Ikkis

Despite receiving appreciation on social media for its emotional storytelling and respectful portrayal of a real-life war hero, Ikkis has found it difficult to compete with the box-office juggernaut Dhurandhar. The Ranveer Singh-led spy action film continued its strong run, earning an estimated Rs 11.75 crore on Saturday alone. As per Sacnilk, this pushed Dhurandhar’s total collection to a staggering Rs 759.50 crore, highlighting the massive craze surrounding the film.

Ikkis stars Agastya Nanda as Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who was martyred at the age of 21 during the Battle of Basantar in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. For his bravery, he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, becoming its youngest recipient. The film also features the late Dharmendra in a pivotal role, marking his final on-screen appearance, alongside Simar Bhatia, Vivan Shah, Sikandar Kher and Jaideep Ahlawat.
