An IIT graduate left people shocked when she turned down a high-paying job in Gurgaon to stay in her favourite city -Bengaluru. Taking to Instagram, data scientist Sneha Priya, an IIT Roorkee graduate revealed why she chose to stay back in Bengaluru instead of relocating to Gurgaon for an enviable job offer.

“Today, I was meant to be in Gurgaon… starting a new chapter and leaving Bangalore behind. But I chose to stay. And Bangalore said goodbye to my doubts with twin rainbows,” she wrote on Instagram. “Sometimes the best career decision isn’t the highest offer.. Accepted peace!” she wrote in a viral post.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Sneha Priya explained why she made such an unconventional decision of turning down a seemingly dream job - that paid Rs 32 lakh per annum in Gurgaon.

She revealed her brother and his wife stay in the city. She has family, friends and a support system here. She described Bengaluru as a “safe space.”

“I have family friends a place I love and a city that has seen your highs and lows… I feel a sense of safety in Bengaluru. A sense of home. And no amount of money can replace that..” she explained.

Safety concerns also played a significant role in Sneha's decision to reject the Gurgaon-based opportunity. According to her, previous visits to the Delhi-NCR region had left her with several unpleasant memories, making her hesitant to relocate there despite the attractive job offer.

She explained that one of the biggest reasons she preferred staying in Bengaluru was the kindness and warmth she had experienced from people in the city. In contrast, her interactions during multiple trips to Delhi, including the time she was studying in Roorkee, had largely been negative, leaving her uncomfortable about the prospect of living in the region.

Sneha recalled an incident at Delhi Railway Station where she was deceived by a man who falsely claimed there was an issue with her suitcase and offered to repair it. Believing his story, she ended up losing nearly ₹2,000 in the scam.

Sneha is currently working as a data scientist.
