Once Donald J Trump, a bona fide reality TV star, actually made it to the White House, it was really only a matter of time before Kim Kardashian eyed the First Lady’s office in the East Wing via the candidacy of her husband Kanye West. The announcement by the rapper and fashion designer on July 4 has come a tad late in the race and West may not know much about the complicated process of US elections, but after Trump’s victory in 2016, all bets are off on winnability of dark horses. By throwing his MAGA hat into the ring — that too, a term ahead of the presidential run he apparently announced last year by simply tweeting ‘2024’ — he’s put the spotlight back on his 2018 single 'Ye vs the People'.

If West wins, ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue’ promises to be a hit reality show. West’s candidacy will undoubtedly inspire other unexpected contenders. On the strength of the 19,200 likes he got for an exploratory tweet about running for president, TV star of yesteryear Bob Saget has already announced that he will contest too — with his one-time co-star John Stamos as a running mate and the tagline ‘Full House in the White House’.

Elon Musk, currently busy sending custom-made red satin shorts to short-sellers of Tesla stock, has said West has his ‘full support’ but he could well decide to have a shy at it himself.
