If Darth Vader trumps Donald in polls?

As Darth Vader has appeared in all previous Star Wars movies, it cannot be said with certainty that he is completely out of the picture even though he does not figure in The Force Awakens. However, a recent Ipsos online poll pitting Vader against current presidential candidates could portend the return of a phantom menace to centre stage in a new avatar. After all, it is not unlikely that the Dark Lord could want to turn his diabolical mind to this epic — at least in America’s opinion — battle. That he fared particularly well against Darth (okay, Donald) Trump in the online poll, with millennials and even the minorities seeing him as a new hope, speaks volumes about the American electorate. But even the fact that Hillary Clinton turned out to be twice as popular as Vader is not reason to cheer as it is unclear which side of the Force she is on, considering she is shown as losing in a possible contest against Yoda, the Jedi master too.

The dark forces’ interest in the US polls cannot be ruled out any more, especially since a certain nascent theocratic (if not galactic) empire is striking back wherever it can these days. However, if worse comes to worst, it can always be pointed out that the Lord of the Sith cannot actually contest for the presidency as he is an alien — in more ways than one — and, therefore, ineligible.
