PM Modi decided to end the curiosity of his fans with a Twitter post.
NEW DELHI: From the traditional veshti to an elaborate South Indian cuisine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's second informal summit in Tamil Nadu's Mamallapuram with Chinese President Xi Jinping was the perfect display of India's magnificent cultural heritage. But what caught the Twitterati's attention was the equipment PM Modi was spotted carrying at the Mamallapuram beach.

During the weekend, the 69-year-old Prime Minister went for a 'refreshing walk along the coast', and was spotted picking up litter from a beach which included, plastic bottles, plastic bags, and other waste. He was seen carry a long stick while he was 'plogging'. Picking litter while jogging is referred to as plogging.

With a Twitter post, Modi decided to end the curiosity of his fans. On Sunday, he posted pictures of the stick-like instrument, and said it was an 'acupressure roller' that he often uses. "I have found it to be very helpful," he added.

On Saturday, Modi, who launched his pet project 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' for clean India in 2014, posted a three-minute video of his plog on the beach, and urged followers to keep public places clean and tidy.

During his speech on Independence Day this year, Modi had announced a campaign to make the country free of single-use plastic. In his Mann ki Baat radio programme last month, Prime Minister Modi had hailed the efforts of India's perhaps first 'plogger' Ripudaman Belvi who has launched a campaign to pick up litter while jogging.

Modi had said that while plogging is in use in foreign countries, in India Belvi has promoted it to a great extent. Last week, he termed plogging as "win-win because it improves fitness and the environment".
