'I was so innocent till the age of 34...': Govinda reacts to wife Sunita Ahuja’s cheating claims. He questions why she 'bad-mouths' him

Bollywood actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja got married in March 1987 and have two children, Tina and Yashvardhan Ahuja. The couple initially kept their marriage private before making it public. Their decades-long relationship has often been discussed in the media, particularly because of Sunita’s candid comments about their marriage, family dynamics and alleged cheating rumours. Recently, Govinda addressed the claims and spoke about his relationship with his wife.

Govinda responds to Sunita Ahuja’s cheating claims

Sunita has spoken publicly about Govinda’s alleged affairs in the past, including claims about his relationships with co-stars during the 1990s, when he was among Bollywood’s biggest stars. She has also said that while she could accept what happened in the past, she would not be comfortable if similar incidents happened again.

Speaking to ANI, Govinda responded to Sunita’s remarks in his style. He said he accepts the criticism because he believes there is also love behind her words. The actor also expressed gratitude towards his wife for remaining by his side through the ups and downs of his life.




Govinda credited Sunita for supporting him during his career and for playing an important role in raising their children. Their daughter Tina Ahuja has appeared in films, while their son Yashvardhan Ahuja is preparing to enter the acting profession.

The actor futher questioned, "There are many things that remain unexpressed—things that can never be put into words. If I were to offer just a glimpse of these matters from the outside, would there really be a need to cast aspersions to create a distance? People often view that as an escape. Is it essential to say bad mouth your own people to gain success? That is a bit easy. Sunita does it tactfully. She offers four words of praise or perhaps the praise comes naturally and then voice a criticism. I see more love in that."

Govinda talks about heroines, chemistry and his innocence

Govinda also addressed the perception surrounding his chemistry with his female co-stars. During the peak of his career, the actor worked with several leading actresses and delivered numerous successful films.

He explained that his relationship with his heroines on screen was built around the requirements of the films. According to Govinda, the romantic chemistry audiences saw was part of his professional approach and helped make many of his songs and films successful.

The actor also recalled advice from his late mother, Nirmala Devi. Govinda said she encouraged him to remain cheerful and maintain a positive atmosphere around himself. He connected that advice with his approach to working with his female co-stars.

Govinda further opened up about his younger years and said he considered himself extremely innocent until the age of 34.

“I was so sharif (innocent) till the age of 34 that even I feel embarrassed myself why I was so sharif,” admitted Govinda, adding, "Aap mithai ki dukan mein reh kar aap bhookhe nikle toh kya dukhad hai (If you stay within a sweet shop, but remain hungry, then it’s very sad). It takes the man a while to get around this, at least a man like me. I didn’t even have a clue what was happening from the age of 21 till 34."

What Sunita has said about Govinda’s alleged affairs

Sunita’s comments about Govinda’s alleged affairs have resurfaced several times over the years. During her appearance on Lock Upp 2, she spoke about the actor’s personal life and claimed that he had been involved in several affairs.

Sunita acknowledged that relationships in the film industry can be complicated, particularly when actors spend long hours working closely with their co-stars. She also indicated that she had continued to stand by Govinda despite the difficulties they may have faced.

The couple’s marriage began in 1987, when Govinda was already an established Bollywood actor. They chose to keep the wedding private for nearly two years, reportedly making their relationship public after the birth of their daughter Tina. Their son Yashvardhan was born later.

Over the years, Govinda and Sunita have continued to remain together despite public speculation about their relationship.
