Shakti Mohan has always followed her own path, both in dance and in life. At 40, the choreographer and television personality has opened up about her decision to stay single, and her reasons are deeply personal. Known for her honesty, Shakti recently spoke about love, heartbreak, and societal expectations, making it clear that she is content with her choices and does not feel the need to follow a conventional life path.

For the unversed, Shakti first rose to fame after winning Dance India Dance Season 2 in 2010. Her journey, however, wasn’t easy. She overcame a serious childhood injury that once made walking difficult, and went on to train professionally in contemporary dance. Over the years, she has built a strong identity in the industry, not just as a performer but also as a choreographer and mentor.

Why Shakti Mohan wants to stay single at 40?

In a recent conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Shakti spoke candidly about her personal life. She shared that questions about marriage often come up, even within her family. She said her parents still ask if she has found someone, and her mother encourages her to at least consider being in a relationship. However, Shakti made it clear that she is not in a rush.

She explained that she genuinely enjoys her current life. Running her dance studio - Nritya Shakti and focusing on her work gives her a sense of fulfilment. According to her, she does not feel that anything is missing, despite not being in a relationship. She also questioned the common belief that happiness depends on having a partner, saying that if she is content on her own, there should be no issue.

Shakti also addressed another personal choice, her decision not to have children. She revealed that she does not feel a natural maternal instinct and has never strongly desired motherhood.

" I am a great aunt and I am the number one person for my nephew, but I still don’t have maternal instinct. I don’t want to have children for myself," she added.

Opening up further, Shakti spoke about a past relationship that left a lasting impact on her. She revealed that she had been cheated on and chose to end the relationship immediately. According to her, the experience was deeply hurtful and changed how she views trust.

What made the situation more difficult was the advice she received at the time. Shakti shared, "I was cheated on in a relationship. I immediately broke up. But my mother told me that he is a nice boy, we had three years of relationship, and that I should let it go. She told me boys are like this. You accept it. But I told her that I will not accept this in my life. If boys are like this, I don’t want boys in my life."

She also recalled how the heartbreak affected her emotionally. She spent months dealing with the pain and confusion, especially since it was her first experience with such a situation. The betrayal made it hard for her to trust again, and she realised that it was something she could not simply ignore.
