I For India: SRK's performance with AbRam wins hearts; Hrithik, PeeCee, Kohli among celebs in concert to raise funds for Covid relief

MUMBAI: Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Madhuri Dixit Nene among others turned signers for a digital concert to raise funds for the frontliners working round-the-clock to contain the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Facebook collaborated with some of the biggest names in Indian entertainment industry and Hollywood names like Mick Jagger, Will Smith and Sophie Turner to put together a home-to-home fundraiser concert, 'I For India' on Sunday.

The line-up was introduced by filmmakers Karan Johar and Zoya Akhtar, with Akshay Kumar kick-starting the concert with a poem penned by lyricist Manoj Muntashir, titled 'Tumse Ho Nahi Payega'.


It was followed by Aamir and his director-wife Kiran Rao, who said it was important in current times to extend support to the needy.

"But most importantly, to not leave hope," Aamir said, urging people to donate for the frontline workers. The duo then sang classics such as 'Aa Chalke Tujhe Main Leke Chalun' and 'Jeena Isika Naam Hai'.

Shah Rukh Khan won hearts as he performed with son AbRam, closing the concert with a song composed by rapper Badshah and penned by lyricist Saini.

Titled 'Sab Sahi Ho Jayega', the song is about the perils of being locked up inside homes and the hope that sooner or later the world will be coronavirus free.

"Everybody who knows me knows that I cannot sing to save my life. So thank you for taking a chance on me, everybody. But that's what life is about, it's about good chances, hope, kindness and compassion in whatever ways we can," the Baadshah of Bollywood said.

Towards the end, AbRam also stopped the 'Fan' actor when he said he can go for "one more", by telling him, "Papa, it's enough." SRK shared the performance on his Twitter handle, writing, "Extremely grateful to #IforIndia, @Its_Badshah & @cacklerraj for music, lyrics & for working overnight. Thanks Sunil for the edit. All so that I could sing. Ab bhai,lockdown mein mujhe gaate hue bhi jhelna padhega. AbRam is saying 'papa enough now!’ Par Sab Sahi Ho Jaayega!"

Madhuri Dixit Nene performed her rendition of popstar Ed Sheeran's 'Perfect' with son Arin on the piano.

Alia Bhatt, along with sister Shaheen and composer Ankur Tewari, sang 'Ek Kudi' from her film 'Udta Punjab' and the title song of her father Mahesh Bhatt's film 'Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin'.

Alia and Shaheen thanked the essential service providers and frontline workers for their continued, winning efforts amid testing times.

Farhan Akhtar, along with his band, performed 'Tum Ho Toh' from his film 'Rock On!!', while Hrithik sang the popular track 'Tere Jaisa Yaar Kahan' and played the piano.

Tiger Shroff, known for his dance moves and action films, sang 'Theher Ja Tu Kisi Bahane Se' and the classic 'Roop Tera Mastana'.

The concert also featured Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vidya Balan, Shabana Azmi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Arjun Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Diljit Dosanjh, Dulquer Salmaan, Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Ayushmann Khurrana, Mindy Kaling, Jack Black, among others.


The celebrities also addressed plight of migrant workers, daily wage earners, hunger in times of Covid-19, child abuse and domestic violence, both of which have been on a rise since the lockdown began in India from March 25.

They also encouraged the audience to treat stray animals affectionately and develop eco-friendly habits going forward.

The music fraternity saw the presence of Bryan Adams, AR Rahman, Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Jay Sean, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Jonas Brothers, Amaan Ali, Ayaan Ali, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Badshah, Rekha Bhardwaj and others.

Film-makers such Farah Khan, Vishal Bhardwaj, and personalities from the field of sports such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Saina Mirza also took part in the event.

Bollywood couple Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, on April 2, announced that they will be donating money to the PM-CARES Fund and Maharashtra Chief Minister's Relief Fund to help combat the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Shah Rukh Khan is the latest celebrity to come forward to donate and do his bit in the fight against coronavirus.

The actor's various companies - Kolkata Knight Riders, Red Chillies Entertainment, Meer Foundation and Red Chillies VFX - have pledged to provide support in these testing times. SRK along with wife Gauri and business partners Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta will be contributing to the PM-CARES Fund through their IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Shah Rukh and Gauri will also make a donation to the Maharashtra CM's Relief Fund through their film banner Red Chillies Entertainment.

Additionally, KKR and Khan's NGO, Meer Foundation, will supply 50,000 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Maharashtra and West Bengal governments for healthcare professionals.

Meer Foundation has also tied up with Ek Saath - The Earth organization to provide food to over 5500 families for a month in Mumbai. The 'Swades' star added that a kitchen will be set up to send out 2000 freshly cooked meals everyday to help households and hospitals.

Meer Foundation will also provide 3 lakh meal kits to 10,000 to underprivileged people and daily wage labourers daily in Mumbai, in association with the Roti Foundation.

In addition to this, SRK's Foundation will also work with Working People's Charter to provide essentials to over 2500 daily wage workers in Delhi for a month.

The Badshah of Bollywood also added that the Meer Foundation will provide support to 100 acid attack victims in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Uttarakhand.

Priyanka, along with popstar-husband Nick Jonas, donated an undisclosed amount to 10 charities including Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES), UNICEF, Goonj, Doctors Without Borders, No Kid Hungry, and SAG-AFTRA.
