My style

I’ve always considered it to be a little rock and roll gentleman style. It’s a mixture of styles and brands. I put it together in a way that suits me.

Must-haves

At the moment, bomber jackets, skinny jeans (though I don’t wear them) that are ripped, longer line tee shirts, hooded tops.

In the jeans

Sadly, I don’t wear jeans anymore. I’ve gotten to an age where I feel that jeans don’t look appropriate on me. I was in my mid-50s when it happened. I think certain people of that age can still wear jeans, but as you get older, you need to start thinking about your wardrobe in a different way.

My trademark

I like stripes and pinstripes. You will always find me wearing a scarf. Well not in Mumbai, as it is so hot, but when I am back in the UK, I wear a cashmere sweater and a colourful scarf.

Stand out

The best way to set yourself apart from the crowd is by wearing a suit that fits you perfectly. I think the slimmer it is, the better the outcome.

Make it casual by wearing a tee under it, a shirt without a tie, a printed shirt or checked shirt — these small tweaks can completely change your outfit. They make a suit feel younger. Have a little fun with shoes as well. Also, smaller choices such as a pocket square or scarf can add personality.

Accessories

In terms of bags, it’s all about the backpack now. And shoes. Make sure you’re wearing the right shoes.

Style icons

David Bowie and Jamie Hince. I love looking back at well-dressed men from the past who had a great sense of style. I always think I would have loved to be Keith Richards — that mix of gypsy and alternate approach to things.

Trend speak

I don’t really like the over-washed or over-bleached denim. Anything that looks like you’re trying too hard isn’t something that I can get on board with. Never ever I don’t think I could ever wear a flat cap again. My wife asked me — do you mean to look like a farmer? I said no, but it stuck with me and made me self-conscious.
