Landing a job at an MNC is a dream for many. For many techies, Google is the ultimate career destination. One Hyderabad techie opened up about her emotional journey from being a Google Cloud intern to waiting anxiously for many months to crack the job opportunity at Google, and then an unexpected email in the middle of her shopping haul.

Shalini took to X to share that after "so many ups and downs," she had finally joined Google as a Software Engineer. Looking back, she described the moment as surreal, especially after receiving her corporate laptop and seeing all the work she had contributed during her internship. The road to that moment, however, was far from easy.

Internship at Google

According to Shalini, she interned at Google Cloud in 2025 and spent much of her internship working intensely. Some days stretched from 9:30 am to 9:30 pm. She said she regularly worked weekends and often prioritised work over leisure.

While many of her friends were busy exploring Hyderabad, visiting cafes and enjoying the city, she admitted that she barely got the chance. Most of her time, she said, went into work and learning. The uncertainty began after the internship ended. Shalini revealed that there were headcount-related concerns, and interns were receiving signals to keep alternative opportunities ready. Despite that, she decided to continue giving her best effort because it was the only thing within her control.

She recalled that Google Cloud interns eventually received their pre-placement offers nearly five months later. Those months, she said, were among the most difficult of her life. She described being constantly anxious and worried about the future. To create a safety net, Shalini secured another job offer from Deutsche Bank and also received a winter internship opportunity from a startup. Even then, she admitted she kept holding on to hope because "Google is Google."

The uncertainty became so overwhelming that she began avoiding her phone and spent more time outdoors simply to distract herself from constantly thinking about the outcome. Then came the moment she would never forget.

Shalini was shopping at Delhi's Sarojini Nagar when she opened her phone to make a payment. That's when she noticed an email with the subject line "Google Offer Letter." There had been no prior confirmation email, she said. The offer letter had arrived directly in her inbox.

Her first reaction was disbelief. She checked the sender, verified the domain and examined every detail because she genuinely thought the email might be fake. When she realised it was real, the emotions hit all at once.

Standing in the middle of a crowded market, Shalini found herself in tears. Looking back, she said every late night, every weekend spent working and every anxious day waiting for an answer suddenly felt worth it. She ended her post by expressing gratitude to God and appreciation for the journey that finally brought her to Google.

Internet reacts

Internet users flooded the comments section with congratulatory messages and words of encouragement.

One user congratulated Shalini and said they could only imagine "how hard" she had worked to reach this milestone. The commenter noted that while others were busy exploring the city, she was "building your future," adding that she should have no regrets and continue moving forward. Another user remarked that this level of dedication is "how you land the offer," while also pointing out that the next challenge would be staying sharp and maintaining balance without relying on constant grinding. A third commenter said Shalini's journey was deeply inspiring, congratulating her and wishing her the very best. The user added that stories and experiences like hers motivate them to "keep pushing" toward their own goals.
