Hyderabad heart doctor shares how a man who suffered a heart attack in gym could be fortunately saved
A Hyderabad-based cardiologist, Dr. Mukharjee Madivada, saved a 39-year-old man experiencing a massive heart attack with immediate intervention. The patient initially considered transferring to an ill-equipped hospital based on his family doctor's...

Before proceeding with the necessary emergency treatment, the patient sought advice from his family doctor. Without directly assessing the severity of the situation or consulting the treating cardiologist, the family doctor recommended transferring him to a different hospital—one primarily catering to pediatric cases and lacking an ICU or a cath lab. When Dr Madivada attempted to reach out to the advising doctor for further discussion, the patient and his friends declined to share contact details.
While the cardiologist was explaining the gravity of the situation to one of the patient’s friends over the phone, the patient suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Fortunately, being in the emergency room at a heart speciality hospital meant immediate resuscitation was possible. He was revived and rushed to the cath lab for urgent intervention. By the time his wife arrived at the hospital, an angiogram had been performed, revealing a 100% blockage in the left anterior descending artery (LAD), the heart’s main artery. The doctor successfully opened the artery and inserted a stent, restoring blood flow.
Reflecting on the case, Dr Madivada emphasized that if the patient had followed the initial advice and left for the pediatric hospital, he would not have survived the journey. He highlighted how well-intentioned but misguided recommendations can have fatal consequences. In critical medical emergencies, trusting experienced specialists and acting without delay can mean the difference between life and death. He concluded by mentioning that fortunately, the patient is now stable, and his two young children still have their father by their side.
Reactions poured in as people shared their thoughts on the incident, with many expressing admiration for the doctor’s swift intervention. Some saw the cardiologist as a lifesaver, emphasizing that medical professionals often serve as a divine presence during critical moments.
A few reflected on key takeaways from the case, appreciating the patient’s timely arrival at the hospital and the doctor’s prompt response. However, they also criticized the lack of awareness about the severity of the condition among the patient and his friends. Many were shocked that a seemingly fit 39-year-old gym-goer could suffer such a severe heart blockage, with some expressing fear over how unpredictable heart-related issues can be.
