How Ramesh Shetty turned a small setup into a Rs 100 cr company in 25 years

One can say it was Ramesh Shetty’s steely resolve that turned a small setup into a Rs 100-crore company in just 25 years. Shetty is the founder and CMD of Steelstrong Valves, which makes the complete range of gate, globe, check and ball valves for various applications.

Starting his career in the valve business, Shetty’s vast know-how of manufacturing technology has given the company a competitive advantage, with the introduction of smart engineering and manufacturing value-additions. Between 1989 and 2012, Shetty won numerous awards, including the Star Export Performance Award, Best Performance of District Award and the Certificate of Export Excellence by EEPC.

Expansion plans
With two production units — one in Navi Mumbai ( Maharashtra) and the other at Ahmedabad (Gujarat) — with a covered area of 1,50,000 sq ft for manufacturing and an additional 20,000 sq ft of office space, Steelstrong has customers in all core sector industries in India and overseas.

The company’s products are extensively used in hydro-carbon, power, process, petrochemical and metallurgical industries. The product range includes valves of various sizes in different metallurgies, including carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, monel, hastelloys and nickel aluminum bronze. The company envisions three-fold growth in the next five years. It plans to achieve this growth by focusing on the export business and adding new product lines like DPCVs and triple-offset butterfly valves.
