Arvind Singh of the Mewar royal family feels that the row over the Kohinoor diamond is a vacuous one.

'How does the Government plan to bring back the Kohinoor?'
Arvind Singh Mewar, Custodian of the House of Mewar, feels that the age-old debate over who owns the Kohinoor serves no purpose at all.

"It’s a controversy for the sake of controversy. What is the purpose? I don’t know whether they [the people raising the issue] are asking that it be given back or they just want the limelight.

"There was some problem in getting back Tipu’s [Sultan] swords. How do they plan to bring back the Kohinoor? There is no consistency in [government] policy.

"Why not open up the import policy and allow anything that was Indian and taken out of the country to be brought back? You can’t pick and choose."
