Travelling solo “Back in 1998, when I was single, I took a month off and made my first solo trip to the Annapurna Circuit in the Himalayas. The trekking community I met there was diverse and came from different geographies. I vividly remember spending a lot of time with a bunch of trekkers from Israel who had finished their military service and had come for trekking. The experience was enriching.”

Out of the comfort zone “The first solo trip always remains special and is also the one that teaches you a lot. Trekking in the Himalayas completely took me by surprise. I learned a great deal about myself and life. It dawned on me that it takes a lot to get away from society and do things on your own. The experience taught me to be self-reliant even when I am in the middle of nowhere. I became forward-looking and learned to plan things well, which eventually helped me become a better manager at work.”
Friends on the way

“A few years back, my wife and I met a Japanese lady while we were on a safari in Kruger National Park and got along well with her. We joined her in Johannesburg later and celebrated the New Year together. The friendship grew stronger and she paid us a visit in Japan and now we are looking forward to host her here in India this year.”
A journey cut short “I plan all my journeys well and make provisions for work-related exigencies. You do not need to cut short your trips when you do that. In fact, I had to extend my journeys on a couple of occasions. I remember spending an additional week in South Africa because I realised that there was still more to be explored in that beautiful country.”

“It is not one but two places – Japan and Spain. Japan, for obvious reasons. My wife is from Japan and I have lived there. I speak the language and love the food. My love for Spain is because of its beautiful coastal regions and diversity of food and wines. The locals are so warm and inviting that sometimes I think of buying a house there.”
On my bucket list “Myanmar. Every year I plan a trip to a new country. I have heard a lot of interesting stories about the ethnic groups in Myanmar and the Buddhist relics which date back to the 6th century. Look forward to exploring Myanmar in 2019.
