Some songs don’t just top charts or win applause; they quietly change the course of lives. For Sonu Nigam, one such song came early in his career and went on to define how the Hindi film industry looked at him. Nearly three decades later, that moment came rushing back as the singer stood at the India–Pakistan border in Jaisalmer, looking back at the journey shaped by music, emotion and patriotism.

Ghar Kab Aaoge song out

The occasion was the launch of Ghar Kab Aaoge, a key song from the upcoming movie Border 2. While the track itself marks a nostalgic return to the emotional core of the original Border, it also reopened memories of Sandese Aate Hai, the iconic song from J.P. Dutta’s 1997 war drama starring Sunny Deol, Akshaye Khanna and Suniel Shetty. Speaking at the event, Sonu Nigam shared how that song became a turning point in his career.

The new version of Ghar Kab Aaoge has been recreated by composer Mithoon, with additional lyrics penned by Manoj Muntashir Shukla. The original lyrics were written by Javed Akhtar, while the original composition was by Anu Malik. The song features a powerful lineup of singers, Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Roop Kumar Rathod, Vishal Mishra and Diljit Dosanjh, bringing together multiple generations of voices.

How Border movie song changed Sonu Nigam's life?

At the launch held near the Tanot Mata Temple in Jaisalmer, Sonu Nigam addressed BSF jawans stationed at the border. Recalling his experience with Sandese Aate Hai, the singer said that the song, the film and the people behind it proved to be life-changing for him. He shared that when he recorded the track in the mid-1990s, he was getting work, but not songs of such emotional weight or importance.

According to Sonu, Sandese Aate Hai gave him something he hadn’t received before, credibility. He explained that the song helped audiences and filmmakers see him in a new light, earning him recognition as a 'serious singer' capable of conveying deep emotion. It was a shift that changed how the industry perceived him almost overnight.

The evening began with a soulful performance of the Rajasthani folk classic Kesariya Balam, which set the tone for the event. When Ghar Kab Aaoge was finally unveiled, the response from the audience, especially the soldiers present, was heartfelt and overwhelming. Actors Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and other members of the cast were also in attendance.

Later, Sonu Nigam shared a note on Instagram, describing the experience as a “homecoming”. He wrote that some songs go beyond melodies and become emotions tied to the soul of the nation. Dedicating the track to soldiers and their families, he expressed gratitude for being able to relive the magic of Border through its sequel.

Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 features an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, along with Mona Singh, Medha Rana, Sonam Bajwa and Anya Singh. Presented by T-Series in association with J.P. Dutta’s J.P. Films, the film is slated to hit theatres on January 23.
