House of the Dragon Season 3 OTT release: When and where to watch fantasy drama series. Check plot, cast and other details
The first trailer for House of the Dragon Season 3 is set to drop tomorrow, signaling an explosive escalation of the Dance of the Dragons. New posters show Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen on the Iron Throne, but her claim ignites a brutal power struggle....

The official announcement teases a darker turn ahead, hinting that from fire comes darkness. For readers of Fire & Blood by George R. R. Martin, Rhaenyra’s ascent is no surprise. What lies ahead, however, is far from triumphant. Her claim to the Seven Kingdoms sets the stage for a brutal power struggle that will demand blood, loyalty, and sacrifice in equal measure.
About House of the Dragon
Set nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon traces the turbulent history of House Targaryen. The story unfolds roughly 100 years after the Targaryen conquest united the Seven Kingdoms and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. At its core is a devastating war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons, a civil conflict that begins tearing apart the once-mighty dynasty from within.Season 2 laid the groundwork carefully, building tension through shifting alliances, betrayals, and quiet strategic moves. Season 3 is expected to detonate that tension into full-scale warfare. Multiple large-scale battle sequences are anticipated, making it potentially the bloodiest and most violent chapter yet.
The series was created for HBO by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal and serves as a prequel to Game of Thrones, which ran from 2011 to 2019. Based on parts of Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood, the show received a straight-to-series order in October 2019, with Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik initially serving as showrunners. The first season premiered on August 21, 2022, spanning ten episodes, and was renewed within five days of its debut. After Season 1, Sapochnik stepped down, leaving Condal as the sole showrunner. Season 2 premiered on June 16, 2024, with eight episodes. The third season, renewed in June 2024, is expected to consist of eight episodes and premiere in June 2026. A fourth and final season is currently in development, targeted for release in 2028.
Reception of House of the Dragon
Critically, House of the Dragon has been largely well-received. The series has drawn praise for its layered character development, strong writing, visual effects, and Ramin Djawadi’s score. Performances, particularly that of Emma D’Arcy, have been widely applauded. However, some criticism has centred on pacing issues, especially the time jumps, and the dark lighting in certain scenes. Despite that, the premiere episode drew over 10 million viewers across linear channels and HBO Max on its first day, marking the biggest debut in HBO’s history. The show has since won a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama, while Emma D’Arcy earned two nominations for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama. It also secured nine Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, and won three British Academy Television Craft Awards.Cast in Season 3 of House of the Dragon
