'Horrendous' Delhi unrest leaves B-town speechless: Swara, Kashyap call for action; Sonam prays

Couple of months after Delhi witnessed anti-CAA protests, unrest has struck the National Capital again. Clashes over the amended citizenship law took a violent turn on Sunday with the death toll rising till the third day.

In the wake of the violent clashes and images and videos of parts of the city burning, several Bollywood celebrities took to Twitter to condemn the situation, and called for action.

Anurag Kashyap, known for directing hit films like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ and ‘Manmarziyaan’, took to Twitter to call out the alleged use of water cannons to disperse the protestors outside CM Arvind Kejriwal’s house, arguing that they could have instead been used to douse the fire.


Kashyap has sent out quite a few tweets since violence broke out. In one of the posts, the 47-year-old film-maker equated being ‘pro-CAA’ with being ‘anti-Muslim’.

Actress Sonam Kapoor, too, retweeted a post about the alleged violence in Mustafabad, captioning it, “Horrendous. Praying very hard.”


Singer Vishal Dadlani, who is known for being vocal on political issues, in a tweet urged people to question Home Minister Amit Shah.

Earlier, the singer in another tweet, wrote, “There was no violence until each time the so-called ‘pro-CAA’ groups showed up.”


Lyricist and music composer Javed Akhtar also voiced his concerns on the micro-blogging website, saying that in a few days, Delhi police will go for the ‘final solution’.


In a tweet sent out on Monday, ‘Panga’ actress Richa Chadha took a jibe at the Delhi Police saying that they are ‘overworked’, and urged her followers to find out information about one of the protestors brandishing a gun.


Actress Raveena Tandon was quick to respond to Chadha’s tweet. Tandon said that Delhi police don't have ‘cushy lives’ and are ‘stuck in a thankless job’. She asked Chadha to be more compassionate.


Richa responded to Raveena’s tweet, offering condolences to the cop who lost his life.

Swara Bhasker, in a tweet, said that Delhi riots had left her speechless.

Several cricketers, the likes of Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma and Irfan Pathan shared their thoughts on the protest.





Gauahar Khan, too, expressed her disappointment over the ongoing riots in a tweet.
