The smartphone is likely to be priced between Rs 15,000 to 20,000.
Honor is set to launch its new smartphones next week in India. One of the phones that will be launched is the Honor 20i. We received the phone before its official launch and here are our first impressions of the device.
Design & Display The Honor 20i features the glossy gradient finish design that has been trending from the past few months across brands. We liked the curved back which gives a comfortable hold, but the glossy finish will pick up smudges and scratches quickly in our opinion. The rear has a triple camera module protrudes out a bit along with a fingerprint scanner which we feel is placed ergonomically. On the bottom is the speaker grill, headphone jack and microUSB port while the top has hybrid SIM slot. It has a 6.21-inch display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. It has a water drop style notch on top and we liked its slim bezels plus the surprisingly thin bottom chin. However, we did feel that the brightness level was not that great.
The rear has a triple camera module protrudes out a bit along with a fingerprint scanner which we feel is placed ergonomically. Hardware Our unit is powered by the Kirin 710 processor with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. Expected configurations include 4/6GB RAM with 64/128GB storage. Battery is 3,400mAh capacity which should deliver one full day of usage and the box includes a 10W fast charger. From past devices, we know that Kirin 710 is a capable performer but not as much for gaming. That is perhaps one of the big reasons for the presence of GPU Turbo 2.0 on the Honor 20i. For connectivity, you get 4G, VoLTE, dual band WiFi ac and Bluetooth 4.2. Honor is betting big on the cameras with the Honor 20i in the mid-range segment. Software The Honor 20i runs EMUI 9.0 based on Android 9.0. Our review unit came with the March security patch installed. Considering the on-going battle between Honor's parent company Huawei and Google, the Honor 20i's software update status is in limbo at the moment. This does not mean that the phone is bad - you get access to Play Store and all of google services seamlessly.

Cameras Honor is betting big on the cameras with the Honor 20i in the mid-range segment. It has a triple rear camera setup including a 24MP f1.8 primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. In our limited time with the phone's camera we have noticed that it takes images with crisp details and even has a good dynamic range. However, at times it tends to over-saturate the red colour. On the front it has a 32MP selfie shooter with f2.0 and HDR support - again, selfies captured have a good amount of detail. Please note that his initial camera usage was in daylight only so far. For video, it's a letdown that the Honor 20i limits you to 1080p resolution video and does not give a 4k option.
Overall The price of the Honor 20i will be announced next week but we expect it to be priced in the Rs 15,000 to 20,000 price range. From first impressions, we feel the phone is a capable performer on its core functions. Keep an eye out for the detailed review of the phone in the coming weeks.
