Yo Yo Honey Singh Apologises After Viral Delhi Concert Clip Triggers Backlash
Rapper and music producer Yo Yo Honey Singh found himself at the centre of an online controversy after a short video from his recent appearance at a Delhi concert went viral. The clip, recorded during a live show by musicians Nanku and Karun, showed Honey Singh making a sexually explicit remark while addressing the audience. While those present at the venue responded with cheers and laughter, the video drew strong criticism once it began circulating on social media, with many users calling the language inappropriate and irresponsible.

Singer issues public apology on social media

In response, Honey Singh released a video statement on his official Instagram account, addressing the controversy directly. He apologised to those who felt offended by his words and accepted that his choice of language had upset many people. He stressed that there was no intention to insult or hurt anyone and acknowledged that, as a public figure, his words carry weight beyond the moment they are spoken.

He also said the circulating clip did not reflect the full context of what he was trying to convey on stage. However, he did not dismiss the criticism and instead admitted that the way the message came across was a mistake on his part.

Context behind the controversial comment

Explaining the background, Honey Singh said he had attended the Delhi event only as a guest and had not planned a speech. He shared that a few days before the concert, he had lunch with a group of gynaecologists and sexologists. During that conversation, they spoke about concerns related to the rising number of sexually transmitted diseases among young people, which they linked to unsafe sexual practices.

According to the rapper, seeing a largely Gen Z audience at the concert prompted him to try to pass on a message about safe sex and condom use. He said he attempted to communicate this message in what he believed was a casual, OTT-style language that younger audiences are familiar with. However, he admitted that this approach backfired and offended many viewers.

In his apology video, Honey Singh reflected on how easily remarks can be taken out of context once they are edited and shared online. He said the incident had made him more aware of how his words can be interpreted differently outside a live setting. Going forward, he promised to be more careful about what he says on stage, how he says it, and who he is addressing.

He also acknowledged that mistakes happen but emphasised that learning from them is important. By apologising publicly, he said he hoped to make it clear that he respects his audience and understands the responsibility that comes with his platform.

While some social media users accepted the apology and appreciated the clarification, others continued to criticise the initial remark, arguing that public figures should show restraint regardless of intent.
