Noah Wyle may have been named Hollywood’s Sexiest Man Alive, but the actor has a surprisingly ordinary favourite household chore. The 55-year-old, actor, who has worked in The Pitt series, says he enjoys washing dishes, and his explanation is as amusing as it is relatable. In an interview with People, Wyle opened up about sharing domestic responsibilities with his wife, Sara, and revealed why spending time at the kitchen sink works for him. According to the actor, dishwashing offers both a therapeutic break and an opportunity to hide.
Why Noah Wyle loves washing dishes
Wyle believes in maintaining a “division of labor” at home with his wife, Sara. While he says he takes part in several household activities, washing dishes appears to be his speciality.
“I like to think I dabble in just about every domestic activity,” the actor told People. Describing his role in the kitchen, he added, “I am the dish maven" as he called the sink his "domain". But Wyle's enthusiasm for the chore goes beyond simply getting the dishes clean. He believes it gives him a chance to switch off mentally while still contributing to household responsibilities.
Noah Wyle says washing dishes is therapeutic
The actor has a humorous explanation for why more men should take up dishwashing. According to Wyle, the task allows people to zone out and think about whatever is on their minds. “I would recommend more guys get into the dishwashing, because it's very therapeutic,” he told People.
Wyle explained that while someone might appear to be making a significant contribution to the household, they can also enjoy some time alone with their thoughts. Laughing, he admitted that there is another advantage to the chore: “You're really hiding.” He joked that washing dishes lets him avoid participating in activities he might not want to join.
“You can just go hang out in the kitchen, think your thoughts, do those dishes,” Wyle said, explaining why he continues to take charge of the sink. The actor was named Sexiest Man Alive on Tuesday, adding the title to a career that includes his role in the medical drama The Pitt.
