Hollywood releases in India: The Fix to Mayday to The Gentlemen Season 2, new movies and shows to watch on Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar and theatres

Hollywood has a busy lineup for Indian audiences this week, with action, horror, fantasy and comedy all finding space across theatres and streaming platforms. From Ryan Reynolds’ new action comedy to a terrifying flight in Black Box, there is plenty to choose from. A popular Netflix series is also back with a new season, while several new films are arriving in cinemas.

Onslaught: In theatres | Release date: September 4

Onslaught is an action-packed sci-fi horror film directed by Adam Wingard, known for Godzilla vs. Kong and The Guest. The film stars Adria Arjona as Celeste, an Army sniper and single mother who is trying to give her young daughter a peaceful life.


Things take a dangerous turn when three genetically modified super-soldiers escape from a secret military facility. They begin hunting Celeste and her family, forcing her to use her military skills to protect them. The cast also includes Dan Stevens, Rebecca Hall, Michael Biehn, Drew Starkey and Reginald VelJohnson. UFC fighters Alex Pereira and Maurice Greene are also part of the film.

Mayday: Apple TV | Release date: September 4

Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh come together for Mayday, a genre-blending action comedy directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Reynolds plays U.S. Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly, who is sent on a secret mission into Russian territory during the Cold War.

The mission goes wrong and Kelly is left stranded behind enemy lines. He then meets Nikolai Ustinov, a former KGB agent played by Branagh. The two unlikely allies must work together to survive. Maria Bakalova, Marcin Dorociński and David Morse are also part of the cast. Apple TV has confirmed the film’s global premiere for September 4.



The Magic Faraway Tree: In cinemas | Release date: September 4

The Magic Faraway Tree brings a fantasy adventure to theatres. The film follows a modern family that moves to the English countryside after a job loss. While adjusting to their new surroundings and a life without technology, the children discover a huge magical tree.

The tree leads to different magical worlds filled with unusual characters and adventures. Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Nonso Anozie, Nicola Coughlan, Jessica Gunning and Dustin Demri-Burns star in the film. Ben Gregor has directed the fantasy movie.

Black Box: Lionsgate Play | Release date: September 4

If horror is your preferred genre, Black Box could be one to check out. Directed by Steven Quale, the sci-fi horror thriller takes place aboard Vero Airlines Flight 298, travelling from Seattle to New Orleans.

The flight quickly turns into a nightmare when passengers begin suffering from mysterious illnesses. Technical problems and strange behaviour from the pilots add to the panic. As supernatural events unfold, the passengers find themselves trapped at high altitude and forced to fight for survival.

The film stars Tom Brittney, Holly White, Betsy-Blue English, Dane Whyte O'Hara, Kaja Chan, Georgina Leonidas and Hanneke Talbo. Lionsgate Play has scheduled the film for September 4.

The Gentlemen Season 2: Netflix | Release date: September 3

The Gentlemen is back with its second season on Netflix. All eight episodes of the new season are available to stream together, making it a binge-friendly option for the weekend.

Theo James returns as Eddie Horniman, while Kaya Scodelario reprises her role as Susie Glass. The cast also features Daniel Ings, Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Hugh Bonneville and Maya Jama.

The new season continues the story of Eddie and Susie as they deal with the criminal empire they have become involved in. Their growing business brings new problems, rivalries and difficult choices. The series has been created by Guy Ritchie, who also returns as one of the directors.

The Fix: In theatres | Release date: September 11

Coming next week is The Fix, an action thriller starring Liam Neeson and Zachary Levi. The film follows former CIA operatives who head into Tehran for a dangerous rescue mission after an earlier operation in Afghanistan goes wrong.

Zachary Levi plays Tucker, who leads the team, while Liam Neeson plays veteran operative Larry. The cast also includes Quincy Isaiah, Wes Chatham, Elnaaz Norouzi, Titus Welliver and Navid Negahban. Guy Moshe has directed the film, which is scheduled to hit theatres on September 11.
