Wakefit employees get a 30-minute power nap to energise.
Isn't it a dream when your company pays you to sleep? Modern furniture brand Wakefit is doing just that.
On Wednesday, the start-up took away its employees' mid-week blues with a simple, yet impactful, email. Wakefit co-founder Chaitanya Ramalingegowda sent out a detailed email to its employees - announcing the 'official nap time'. The mail's subject was titled, 'Announcing Your 'Right To Nap'.
In his mail, Ramalingegowda wrote, "We have been in the business of sleep for over six years now and yet have failed to do justice to a crucial aspect of rest - the afternoon nap. We have always taken naps seriously, but starting today, we will be taking things up a notch."
The businessman listed studies conducted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Harvard to state the reason for this decision. He said that a NASA study reveals that a 26-minute catnap can enhance performance by 33 per cent, while a Harvard report shows how getting enough sleep can prevent burnout.
"Research shows that afternoon naps help with memory, concentration, creativity, and productivity," he added.
Wakefit declared a 30-minute-long nap time from 2 PM to 2:30 PM for all its employees. He said this move will normalise afternoon naps at work. The company will block the calendar for all its employees for the official afternoon naps. The entrepreneur informed that the company is working towards creating 'cosy nap pods' and 'quiet rooms' in the office to build the 'perfect nap environment'.

"Looking forward to catching you sleeping at work," Ramalingegowda concluded.
An excited Head Of Brand at Wakefit, Prateek Malpani, took to LinkedIn to share the mail Ramalingegowda sent to all his employees.
Assuring his followers, Malpani confirmed the news. "Hahaha! What just happened. Quite truly walking the talk. This is for REAL. We just announced official nap time. I can proudly say I am getting paid to sleep at work," he wrote in his caption.
Dropping a message in the comments section, he shared a screenshot of his work calendar that showed a half-an-hour 'official nap time' after a one-hour-long lunch break.

Earlier, Wakefit had made headlines for its Sleep Internship programme. The company called it a unique employment opportunity for individuals to earn money. The candidate will be asked to sleep for an uninterrupted 9 hours, every night for 100 nights in return for a handsome sum.
"After a rigorous selection process, filled with exciting challenges, a group of super sleepers or passionate sleepers will be selected to be part of the Wakefit Sleep Interns Batch of 2021-22," the website read.
