Based on Subhash Ghai's 1983 hit of the same name, director Nikhil Advani creates a similar effervescent ambience as the original, but gives the narrative a contemporary twist. With so much going in its favour, the screenplay glitches can be pardoned.

With a leading man who is fairly charming, and a defiant damsel who is lovable, it is the usual story laden with commercial trappings of song and dance and fight sequences. The power packed action sequences -especially in the climax -are well done and reminiscent of Salman Khan films. The film is set in picturesque locales and the affable bond between Pancholi and Shetty feels real. For two newbies, the duo has a strong screen presence. Shetty is a natural and Pancholi owns the character with an effortless swagger. A full throttle masala entertainer, Hero is plot-heavy. And while you are well acquainted with the story, Nikhil and Salman's sensibility works in giving the film a different texture. Slickly made, it doesn't make a viewer restless. For its 132 minutes' crisp runtime, Hero offers just about enough entertainment and conveys that commercial movies needn't be puerile to show people a good time.
