Hero MotoCorp will charge customers a fee of Rs 349 for doorstep delivery.
Home delivery may be common with FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) sector, food giants and local restaurants, but the two-wheeler company, Hero MotoCorp, has decided to make the most of this trend.

The bike and scooter major will charge customers (in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Noida) a fee of Rs 349 for doorstep delivery. In the coming months, this initiative will spread to 25 cities.

When it all started

According to PizzaDelivery.com, the origin of food home delivery dates back to 1889 in Italy's Naples city. Raffaele Esposito, who was the best-known pizza chef or Pizzaaiolo in town, ensured he delivered pizza to the palace. King Umberto and Queen Margherita were the first customers to get their food delivered to their home.

Some Korean newspapers have also reported that the cold noodles (naengmyeon) were first delivered in 1768.

However, the different places around the world started the process of charging fees for home delivery of goods at different times. Some records in history books also suggest that it existed even during early civilisation in Egypt, Harappa and China. They realised it was rudimentary, and explored the opportunity as the trade flourished.

Last month, a Melbourne man was the victim of one of the strangest burglaries. The thief did not make away with the expensive items in the house. Instead, he just ate all the chocolate. The victim was quoted saying, “He ate all my Cadbury Favourites.” The thief also enjoyed several cans of drink, cut his toenails and would have probably fixed himself dinner if the home owner didn’t come home when he did.

“Anyone offered large quantities [of chocolate] via unconventional channels should report it to the police immediately.” That was the public service announcement that was issued in April 2018 in Germany when thieves made off with a truckload of Nutella and Kinder chocolate eggs. The stolen treats were worth more than $80,000. The police were clueless about the motive of the robbers and suggested they were after the truck the chocolate spread was stored in.

Large-scale food thefts are not unheard of in this particular part of Germany, as five tonnes of coffee and a truckload of Red Bull energy drinks were also on the hit list.
