One is the 'King of Good Times', the other was the 'Biscuit Baron'. There are some underlying similarities between UB Group's Vijay Mallya and deceased magnate Rajan Pillai, who was described as "Asia's most flamboyant tycoon” when he died in 1995. Pillai, who once ran Brittania Biscuits, f led to India just as the Singapore Government charged him with defrauding and criminal breach of trust amounting to $17.2 million. He died of liver cirrhosis, while at Tihar Jail.
Pillai and Mallya were reportedly close friends, but when ETPanache reached out to his wife Nina Pillai, she refused to comment, citing that she no longer shared a friendship with the UB Chairman. All she said was, "The mind is like a horse. Tamed it will lead you to victory, wild, it will break everything down. This is what has happened in Mallya's case." We leave you to read between the lines.
