Here is why interior designer Kelly Hoppen finds Mumbai intriguing
Interior designer talks to ET Panache about her new project in Mumbai and why the city reminds her of China.

British interior design queen Kelly Hoppen's client list includes David and Victoria Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bono and Elton John among others. Hoppen is all set to kick off her maiden Mumbai project with the Lodha Group's luxe residential complex at Wadala. So what are her first impressions of the city?

"I'd say Mainland China resembles Mumbai a lot. I'm still trying to get my head around how high-rise buildings and slums exist right beside each other here though," says Hoppen. She was struck by the chaotic order that she saw everywhere in Mumbai.

"Everything is very close in Mumbai... and there doesn't seem to be any order of how people live," she said, while adding that working against the backdrop of these basic differences is a challenge she is looking forward to.

After all, her design philosophy is 'East meets West', and Hoppen is known to fuse principles of simplicity with opulent finishes to create a distinct style of her own.
