Here are five things about James Horner that you might not know

James Horner, an avid American composer - who besides his Oscar-winning performance in Titanic had also scored for Avatar, A Beautiful Mind and Braveheart.

Here are FIVE things about the man:

- James Horner passed away after a plane crash on June 22nd, which was also his birthday.

- He was a trained pilot and the plane which crashed - a S-312 Tucano MK1 turbo-prop with two seats was one of the several aircraft the composer owned.

- Horner, who was also a prolific conductor and orchestrator of film music, bagged his first Academy award nomination for James Cameron's Aliens. He went on to compose for blockbusters including Braveheart, Apollo 13, Apocalypto, A Beautiful Mind, Troy, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, The Karate Kid among others.

- Celine Dion secretly recorded the famous song, 'My heart will go on' with composer James Horner who co-wrote it with Will Jennings because director James Cameron didn't want to have a theme song for Titanic initially.

- Horner won two Oscars for his work on James Cameron’s Titanic in 1997. He has also won two Golden Globe Awards, three Satellite Awards, three Saturn Awards, and has been nominated for three British Academy Film Awards.

Ron Howard, who was a very close friend of the composer said:

Russel Crowe, who acted in Braveheart and A Beautiful mid also took to Twitter to pay his tribute.
