Revathi Kamath, mother of Zerodha co-founders Nithin and Nikhil Kamath, has caught attention once again—not for her sons’ billionaire status, but for her own quiet display of simplicity. A recent photo of her standing inside a Bengaluru Metro coach has gone viral, highlighting her choice to use public transport just months after receiving a luxury Mercedes as a gift from her sons.
Recently, she shared a glimpse of her everyday life that stood in contrast to her sons’ billionaire status. Dressed in a pink saree, Revathi Kamath was seen standing inside the women’s coach of a Bengaluru Metro train. The moment, captured and shared on Instagram, came with a short caption: “Travelling in the metro is so much convenient and that too in the female compartment! #nammametro.”
The image quickly gained attention online, not only because of her high-profile family, but also for the message it subtly conveyed—simplicity, practicality, and groundedness despite wealth.
Just Months After Receiving a Mercedes
This metro ride comes just three months after Revathi Kamath was gifted a luxury car by her sons. In a Facebook post from March, she revealed that she had received a Mercedes GLS reported to be worth over Rs 1.5 crore. She noted that the gifting was done in a traditional manner—with rituals, a shawl, and a peta (turban). “My sons today gifted me new car today and here also I received car keys this way and one more Peta and shalu,” she wrote, sharing pictures of the moment. The Mercedes GLS is known for its luxury features, including a spacious interior, high-end infotainment system, and strong performance. Yet, the same mother of two billionaire sons chose to take a metro ride standing—drawing admiration for her unpretentious lifestyle.
A Life Rooted in Culture and Sustainability
Revathi Kamath is not new to public attention, but she is known less for her sons' success and more for her own body of work. Born in Shringeri into a culturally rich family, she was raised with a deep respect for music and learning. Her father, N. Krishnamurthy, was a veena player and legal professional who later became a music teacher. Music was a central part of her upbringing, and that influence remains strong.Just two months ago, she was seen performing Carnatic music on the veena at a cultural event. The performance, taking place in a devotional setting with garlands and traditional lamps, showcased her skill and devotion to classical arts.
From Flowers to Forests
Revathi’s entrepreneurial journey began with floral decoration. With a Rs 5,000 loan, she did her first project for Wipro, which led to a ₹45,000 assignment. Balancing motherhood and home responsibilities, she started her own flower shop in Jayanagar and eventually launched Calyx, an event management company that handled large corporate and wedding events. After more than two decades in the business, she pivoted towards environmental causes. Her initiatives include planting over one lakh trees and reviving the Somanahalli Lake in Kanakapura. Her website notes that her work on the lake helped recharge hundreds of wells and improved 28 acres of surrounding land. Her focus has since shifted to creating long-term ecological impact and sustainability.
According to information on her website, Revathi and her late husband, Raghuram Kamath, placed a strong emphasis on empathy and social responsibility while raising their sons. She credits their upbringing and the values taught at home as part of what shaped the Kamath brothers' outlook. “I think contributing to society and all they got from me and my husband, he used to help people a lot,” she shared.
