How Heidi Klum’s Giant Hand Halloween Costume Was Created
The costume was designed to resemble Klum’s own left hand, complete with long red nails, veins, rings and a gruesome-looking severed wrist. Her face appeared through the palm, while her legs formed part of the fingers. The look was created by special-effects artist Mike Marino, Klum’s longtime collaborator. In an interview with Vogue, Klum said the idea came from looking at her own hand and wondering whether she could fit inside a giant version of it.“I looked at my hand and I thought, ‘Hey, I think I could fit my body in this somehow,’” she said, as reported by the Associated Press. The costume also included personal details. The team recreated her engagement ring and wedding band, along with a tattoo of her husband Tom Kaulitz’s name on the ring finger. Klum said the detail meant “a little bit of Tom” was with her, even though he could not attend the party because he was on tour.
Five To Six Hours To Get Into The Costume
The transformation required extensive preparation. Klum said it took around five to six hours to get into the costume on the night of the party, while the actual creation process took much longer. The oversized hand was also heavy and difficult to carry. “Hands down, the hardest thing is carrying it,” she said, according to the AP report. The costume was unveiled at Cathédrale restaurant in Manhattan, where Klum’s annual Halloween party marked its 25th year.Heidi Klum’s Most Memorable Halloween Looks
