India Inc mourns Heeraben Modi's demise: Anand Mahindra, Vedanta boss offer condolences to PM Modi

Heeraben Modi, the mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, passed away at 100 on Friday. She was hospitalised on Wednesday after her health deteriorated.

Informing about her demise, PM Modi took to Twitter to share that she had left for her heavenly abode.

"A glorious century rests at the feet of God... In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values," his caption said.



Recalling his meeting with his mother in June, he stated, "When I met her on her 100th birthday, she said one thing, which is always remembered that work with intelligence, live life with purity."

Later in the day, PM Modi joined his brothers for their mother's last rites in Gandhinagar. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, former CM Vijay Rupani and Cabinet ministers of Gujarat were present for Heeraben's last rites.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra, who has 10.2 million followers on Twitter, said that losing a mother - no matter what her age is - is like losing a part of the soul. "I express my deep condolences to Shri Narendra Modi ji. Om Shanti," he wrote alongside a picture of the mother-son duo.



Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Resources Limited, also paid his respects to Heeraben on her demise.

Wishing she attains salvation, the mining boss said, "Mother's relation is greater than every relation in life. May her soul attain salvation and may her blessings be with us always. Om Shanti."


Biocon Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, who lost her husband John Shaw on October 25, also shared her condolences to PM Modi on his profound loss. "The loss of a mother is fathomless and solace comes only from knowing that a mother’s blessings are eternal. Om Shanthi," she wrote.


United States President Joe Biden on Saturday also condoled the death of PM Modi's mother.

"Jill and I send our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the loss of his mother, Heeraben Modi. Our prayers are with the Prime Minister and his family at this difficult time," he tweeted.


Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday, too, offered his condolences to PM Modi on the passing of his mother. He tweeted, "There is no greater loss than losing one's mother. My condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the passing away of his mother."
