Head to Sonmarg, Pulga if you want to have winter vacation full of snow

It’s that time of the year where you can relive your childhood memories, build a snowman and have a snowball fight. Here’s where you can experience some white showers from heaven.

Pulga, Himachal Pradesh



When the snow falls, nature listens and this village in Parvati Valley is a testimony to that. December and January witness the maximum snowfall. Pulga has lush green pastures that are covered in snow in winters. Wooden houses are a feature of this village and keep you warm amidst frigid temperatures.
What to see: Tea plantations around the area.
What to eat: Savour the potato dishes, the vegetable is grown in Pulga itself.

Hemkund, Uttarakhand



The town is a famous Sikh pilgrim site with a glacial lake surrounded by seven mountain peaks. Hemkund is located at a high altitude which makes reaching here tough. December is a great time to visit the place as the winter flowers are in full bloom. The Gurudwara here makes the visit spiritually rewarding as well. Be ready for low temperatures.
What to see: Valley of Flowers located in Nanda Devi Bio Reserve.
What to eat: The langar food.

Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh



Dubbed as paradise on earth, the Arunachal town experiences snow from December to January every year. The ski lift in town is a great attraction and offers a beautiful view of the snowcapped mountains. The Northeast gem has skiing, snowboarding and other activities for tourists.
What to see: The largest Buddhist monastery in India and Asia has its home here.
What to eat: The momos here are delicious and a must try.

Sonamarg, Kashmir
The best place is the golden meadow town, which looks like a white carpet when covered in snow. The panoramic view of the region around makes every snowfall a magical event. Sometimes avalanches and heavy snowfall make the region inaccessible during winters. But early December and late January are good times to visit.
What to see: Zojila pass offers a beautiful view of the landscapes.
What to eat: Try the local parathas.

Katao, Sikkim
A not-so-famous but abundant in snow spot — Katao is called the Switzerland of India. The slopes and landscapes are perfect spots for snow activities like skiing, snowmobile rides and building snow castles. The temperature in this Northeast town in Sikkim goes into negative and is for those who like sub-zero climate.
What to see: Mt Katao, it is a military base close to China. Permits are needed from the Indian Army to visit.
What to eat: Gyathuk — a local specialty.
