Snapchat is removing 16% of its workforce
The parent company behind Snapchat has once again initiated a significant round of job reductions. According to official disclosures, Snap Inc. confirmed on Wednesday that it plans to cut roughly 16 percent of its worldwide workforce, which translates to nearly 1,000 employees losing their roles.

As reported by Associated Press, the company acknowledged in a regulatory filing that the restructuring will come at a financial cost. The estimated expense for severance packages and related obligations is expected to range between $95 million and $130 million.

A Pattern of Workforce Reduction

This is not the first time the Santa Monica-based firm has undertaken such measures. In 2024, Snap had already reduced its staff strength by about 10 percent, impacting around 530 workers. These recurring layoffs highlight an ongoing effort by the company to streamline operations and manage costs amid shifting business priorities.

An Employee’s Personal Account

Amid these developments, a past account shared by former employee Joel Weinberger offers a more personal perspective on the impact of such decisions. Writing in a 2024 post on LinkedIn, he revealed that he had been part of an earlier round of layoffs at Snap.

He described his tenure at the company with pride, reflecting on his journey from working as a security engineer to eventually taking on leadership responsibilities. After spending seven years with the organization, the sudden transition was emotionally challenging, yet he expressed optimism about exploring new directions in his career.

Moving Forward After Setbacks

Following his departure, Weinberger shared his intention to seek opportunities in security and broader engineering roles. At the same time, he spoke about using the period to reconnect with family and make the most of life outside work, including enjoying time in Los Angeles and pursuing personal interests.
