Some love stories leave you gushing. Others bring a smile. Meanwhile, a few make you proud. This is an example of the latter. Megha Panwar, a woman from Uttarakhand, wasn’t aware that love could come disguised as a uniform that would change her life forever. Married to a fauji, Megha’s journey of meeting her partner, army personnel Pardeep Panwar, becoming best friends and finally tying the knot wasn’t as easy as reading a romance novel. It had its fair share of challenges, but it was their love for one another that transcended every obstacle.

Instagram plays cupid to Uttarakhand couple

Megha and Pardeep’s chance encounter happened online in 2019 when Megha’s sister shared a picture with her on Instagram. Pardeep, who was a random stranger, stumbled across the post and followed Megha on the platform. The following day, Megha went live on Instagram and Pardeep marked his presence in the comments section. The two ended up talking for hours, with Megha admitting that she felt strangely comfortable interacting with him.

Although Pardeep knew instantly that she would become her best friend, Megha was skeptical, telling him that men like him ‘come and go’, so she does not trust them easily. Pardeep objected, assuring that he would break her notion. Pardeep kept his word, showing up for Megha and after a year, their equation turned from best friends to something special. Before becoming an Army person, Pardeep used to work as a Zomato delivery agent, followed by serving in a bakery. But in his heart, he wanted to become a soldier.

A love story rooted in distance, patience and pride

Megha, the granddaughter of a fauji herself, helped him realise the dream, pushing Pardeep to do something that makes his chest proud. In fact, it was his grandfather’s dream to watch Megha marry a soldier. Pardeep tried, failed, tried again and finally got selected. Before leaving for his military duties, he promised to return and marry Megha. In 2023, Pardeep came back and the two got engaged, but for the next 3 years, he remained posted away from home. Their relationship survived on long-distance calls with one looming question: ‘Shadi kab hogi’. But every time, Pardeep assured Megha that the wait would be worth it.

In 2025, Megha and Pardeep took their relationship to the next level and got married. After a month of bliss, he was again back to his duty. Megha admitted to spending major festivals alone and even random weekdays sometimes felt too depressing. She, however, confessed that although the life of a soldier’s wife comes with these sacrifices, she would keep choosing Pardeep over and over again. In conclusion, Megha noted that she feels proud of her husband for serving the country, adding that contrary to popular belief, you can meet real people with the purest of hearts and genuine intentions on social media.
