Actor Ambrish Verma was recently honoured with a major milestone. He bagged IMDb’s ‘Breakout Star’ STARmeter award for his critically acclaimed drama series Sapne Vs Everyone. This particular recognition cements Ambrish’s popularity on the platform. Now, the 36-year-old has joined the list of new stars like Zahan Kapoor, Sharvari, Ayo Edebiri, Maya Hawke and Regé-Jean Page, who previously owned the achievement for their meteoric rise. But Ambrish’s rise to stardom was not a bed of roses as he took the risk of following his dreams, which ultimately paid off.

Risky decision kept hidden from family

According to a report by The Better India, Ambrish Verma quit his well-paying and stable job in Gurugram to venture into the entertainment world. It was a bold step as he had an MBA education loan to pay at that time and hence the actor refrained from sharing the news of his resignation with his family.


Ambrish Verma, in an interaction with The New Indian Express, revealed that after completing an MBA in Marketing from the Management Development Institute (MDI), he got the opportunity to work with an English daily. Later, he joined a weekend theatre group before working with TVF’s marketing team. But in 2019, Amrish once again walked away from TVF so that he could devote his time to creating something new.

How hours in cafés led to a hit series

Born into a middle-class family, with no film-school degree, industry connections, or Bollywood backing, Ambrish Verma created his own path of success. Every morning, he got dressed up as if going to work so that his parents wouldn’t find out the truth and visited cafes, spending long hours thinking, scripting, and planning for something that had no certainty.

And that’s how Ambrish Verma conceptualized Sapne Vs Everyone, drawing inspiration from his own sales experience, ambition and the struggles of ordinary people trying to make a living in this competitive job market. Ambrish wrote, directed and starred in the Hindi-language series, which originally premiered on TVF on YouTube in 2023, before heading to Prime Video. The show resonated widely with the masses, paving the way for the second season 2, which was released on May 1.
