In the middle of all the noise that comes with elections, there are some quiet stories that don’t trend much but stay with you. One such story comes from Kerala, where 95-year-old K Madhavan Nair turned up to vote once again, just like he has done for decades now. There is nothing dramatic about it, no big speech, no attention-seeking. Still, it says a lot.

A Habit That Never Broke

According to a report by The New Indian Express, K Madhavan Nair is a retired schoolteacher. He has been voting since the early years after Independence and has not skipped a single election. That is a long time, and not something many people can claim.

His polling booth has stayed the same over the years — Jagathy Government High School. Even now, at 95, with weak eyesight and some difficulty in movement, he chose to go there in person. He could have used the home voting option, but he did not.

“The feeling of coming to the polling booth to cast my vote is entirely different,” he says.

He was accompanied by his son, but only needed help till the entrance. After that, he went in and completed the process on his own. It may look like a small thing, but at that age, it is not easy.

For Nair, voting is not something casual or routine. He still takes it seriously. He keeps himself updated, reads newspapers with the help of a magnifying lens, and follows news on television.

When it comes to choosing a candidate, he looks at development first. That is what matters to him. There is no confusion in his approach even now.

He does not treat voting as a formality. It is something he believes in.

Kerala Assembly Elections

As per the Election Commission of India, Kerala recorded around 78% polling in the recent Assembly elections. Across the state, people came out in good numbers. Women voters turned out in higher percentages than men, and overall, the process remained peaceful.

There were several measures taken by the Election Commission to make voting easier, things like limiting the number of voters per booth, better voter slips, and live monitoring. The elections also saw strong participation in other regions like Assam and Puducherry.

But among all the numbers and percentages, stories like that of Madhavan Nair stand out in a different way.

At a time when many people skip voting for small reasons, heat, long queues, or simply lack of interest, Nair’s consistency feels different. He has age, health, and practical challenges, yet he shows up.
