Not too long ago, “burning money” was the buzz word in the start-up eco system, with VCs happy to write hefty cheques for to-be-proven businesses. However, with the cash flow becoming more moderate and channelled in recent months, Marico chairman Harsh Mariwala has some advice up his sleeve for entrepreneurs – governance.

“If you have borrowed or taken money from VCs or PEs, then you should trust the governance side. You may make mistakes on the operations side of business, which is okay. But you cannot take short cuts and take a risk on governance, because the moment that trust is gone, the whole relationship gets spoilt.”
