Harsh Goenka tweets vintage poster of iconic Murphy Radio, netizens get nostalgic

Harsh Goenka, the chairman of RPG Group conglomerate, started his week on a nostalgic note on Monday as he took a trip down memory lane.

Goenka took to his Twitter handle to share a picture of a vintage advertisement from the '60s of the iconic brand, Murphy Radio. The image of the advertisement, which was uploaded by indianhistorypics on the microblogging platform, lists out nine interesting facts about Murphy Radio, which was one of the most famous brands in the 1950s and 1960s as people used to listen to commentary of hockey, football and cricket matches.

"An iconic old brand of ours #RPG," Goenka wrote as he retweeted the post and shared it with his 1.7 million followers on the microblogging platform.

Murphy Radios were legendary at the time and almost every Indian household had one. The radio was everyone's source of information and entertainment especially in the time when the television was still a rich man's luxury.

This sweet blast from the past by Goenka on Twitter reminded several others of the good old times.

"I heard most of matches when I was a child on Murphy radio. Especially I still remember Kempes of Argentina’s name, which I heard on the radio in the finals of the World Cup then," One Twitter user replied to Goenka on the social networking platform.
"It has a long glorious story to say ..... Pre Independence "Azad Radio Station" run by freedom fighters and Murphy were the choice of every Indian," wrote another person along with a picture on the vintage radio.
While many were also surprised to realise that Murphy Radio indeed was a product by RPG.

"I didn't knew it was RPG product.. Long journey from Murphy to Carvaan," one person wrote on Twitter, another added, "We had one of these and the entire family used to listen to various programs … Bianca Geet Mala to cricket commentaries. Never knew it was a RPG product … Thank you !"
